Emilie Nicolas - St Pancras Old Church, London - 28th January 2015
If this is pop music then it is of the highest kind.
Having been hooked on Emilie’s Album "Like I’m A Warrior”
all over the Christmas period I was curious as to see how her music came over in
live performance. Luckily I didn’t have long to wait. On a bitterly cold windy
night in January I found myself at the funny little St Pancras Old Church
tucked away behind the station.
I wondered what song they would go into first. With a
swelling of tiny synths and then the pulsing intro to "Let You Out”, a perfect
start. Then followed by the scitty "Melancholia” I was amazed at the sound and
quality of the delivery. The songs have been honed and polished to high sheen
and leave very little room for improvisation musically. There was one song
"Cloudy” part way through the set that they only play live.
This brilliant concert was wound up ...full
